Coffee Shop "Ground" Up0
Everyone knows Kalamazoo as a craft beer destination; however, we feel that our coffee shop scene is just as noteworthy. Whether you like black coffee or frappes, our city has a variety of great establishments for those looking for a cup of coffee!
Kicking off our list is a name that we are sure everyone recognizes. With five locations across Kalamazoo, Water Street has built a stellar reputation among locals. With house-roasted coffee, a full espresso bar, loose-leaf teas, shakes, smoothies, and a full menu at each location, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. We highly recommend the Dolce de Leche.
Our second entrant’s flavorful brews are complemented nicely by its selection of pastries and sandwiches. At Civil House, hand-blended teas, locally roasted coffee, and delicious food meet to give patrons an experience like no other. Personally, our favorite menu items are the Americano and the Golden Milk.
As its name implies, Factory Coffee baristas brew each cup of java gold with dedicated precision. Not limited to just coffee, the shop also offers bags of whole beans and brewing accessories. For those on the go, the Nitro Can is a great option. Be sure to share your coffee adventures with Factory Coffee on social media by tagging #coffeshopinacan.
The next entry on our list has adapted to COVID-19 by conducting all of its transactions online. Thanks in large part to its cheery staff, Rose Gold provides customers with a memorable experience and everything required for a great start to the day. The Cortado and Steamer are both fantastic options and the “Rose Spud” hash browns are delicious!
Starting off the back half of our list is Caffé Casa. Located on the Kalamazoo Mall, this shop uses purified water in its coffee and tea to accentuate the natural flavors. The menu also features options for patrons with varying dietary restrictions. Check out the White Chocolate Mocha the next time you are in the neighborhood.
Described as a “neighborhood spot for coffee and community,” Fido Motors Cafe resides in a three-building complex in the Edison neighborhood. Through its “Get The Goods” program, customers are able to purchase locally made goods and support Kalamazoo businesses during the pandemic. In terms of favorite beverages, we love the Cortado but the Lavender Matcha is also a good choice, especially for this summer weather.
Our seventh and final stop on this coffee train has had a significant influence on the community. Primarily employing residents of KPEP, Walnut & Park is proud to provide these workers with valuable job skills. We recommend the Traditional Macchiato paired with the Vegan Lemon Scone.
These are just a few of our favorite places to order a hot cup of joe. Hopefully, you will get a chance to incorporate any of these fine establishments into your morning routine! Know of a great coffee shop that we missed? Share with us in the comments or on social media!
