According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, satisfaction is "the act of providing what is needed or desired." Apparently, Kalamazoo is good at satisfying its residents' needs and desires.

Kalamazoo residents ranked 19th in the nation based on their 90 percent satisfaction level with where they live according to a recently released The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. The national average was 85 percent.

We recently chatted with two young professionals to see how satisfied they are living in Kalamazoo. Western Michigan University undergrad Lydia King and sound engineer/booking agent Bo Tyler highlighted Kalamazoo's Vine Neighborhood as their primary source of satisfaction in Kalamazoo.

"I think it's the closest you are going to get to living in a big city neighborhood anywhere in town," King said. "I wouldn't live anywhere else."

Tyler agreed, saying he enjoys the lesser-known groups and initiatives found in the neighborhood, including the T.O.A.D. Bicycle Cooperative midnight rides and The Moped Army.

"There's a lot of color in Kalamazoo that I feel doesn't get noticed that much," he said.

King and Tyler also said their favorite Kalamazoo destinations include Green Top Tavern, Louie's Trophy House Grill, Shakespeare's Pub, Old Dog Tavern, and Fourth Coast.

She also mentioned how friendly people in and around Kalamazoo are.

"The people here are super nice. They are the kind of people who will go out on a limb for you," King said.

So what about you? How satisfied are you living in Kalamazoo? What keeps you here and what would you miss the most if you lived elsewhere? Tell us below.
