The world is starting to open up again and this summer looks to be a bit livelier than the last. To help make that happen, we put together a list of activities and pastimes that will get you into the summer spirit.
Visit a park or nature trail
We kick off our list with an old standby; exploring nature! One great thing about living in Kalamazoo is the abundance of scenic spaces. Whether you are looking to bike a trail, walk your dog, or vibe out in the forest, beautiful wildlife is just a short car ride away. If you need help looking you can always check out our breakdown of picturesque locations.
See a live performance
After a long week at work, sometimes the best way to unwind is by watching a live performance. Luckily, Kalamazoo residents have a variety of venues to choose from depending on what they are in the mood for. Want to laugh? Catch a sketch comedy show at The Dormouse Theatre. Perhaps a drama is more your speed. Great plays are available at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre. If live music is what you like, then be sure to check out the Summertime Live series.
Join a recreational sports league
Looking to relive your past athletic exploits, stay active, or just have fun? Consider joining one of Kalamazoo’s many recreational sports leagues. Through groups like Kalamazoo Sport & Social Club and Best Damn Sport and Social Club participants can play flag football, volleyball, dodgeball, and more!
Get a bite to eat at a food truck
After you are done burning off that energy, why not get a bite to eat from a local food truck? Kalamazoo has plenty of offerings including Freddy’s Food Hut, Nick’s Gyros, and Teresa’s Kitchen! Visit Kalamazoo Food Truck Rally for event times and locations.
Cool off at the pool
The warm weather is nice, but it is bound to get uncomfortably hot one of these days. When that happens, take a trip to your local pool. KIK Pool and the Maple Street YMCA are both fantastic options for splashing around with your family or swimming laps.
